It holds 54 cubic feet against the GS4000’s 60, and it is about 4.5 inches shallower, which helps in a narrow side yard. Owners rate it 4.4 out of 5 from 1,751 ratings on Amazon and 4.3 from 2,478 at Home Depot. Two things to plan for: Suncast’s manual requires a concrete slab or wood platform under it, and you have to anchor it, with hardware you buy separately. Skip either and you void the warranty.

The GS4000 figures come from its old Amazon listing, which Suncast’s current site no longer covers. The BMS5700 is shorter by half an inch outside but taller inside, at 69.5 inches against 67. The difference in capacity comes mainly from depth.

What Fits Inside
The inside is 69.5 inches tall, so rakes, shovels and hoes up to about 5 ft 9 in stand upright. The door opening is 66 inches tall and 46.25 inches wide, wide enough for a trash can or bags of soil. Most adults will duck under the door frame. At 28.25 inches deep inside, it is a cabinet you reach into rather than walk into.
Small items are where a tall shed falls down: without shelves, they end up on the floor. The walls have notches for up to three shelves at 16 inch steps. Suncast lists a compatible shelf kit (BMSASHELFH1), which fits the back wall only, and other baskets and hook accessories. None of these come with the shed.
What Your Base Needs
This is the part most buyers miss. Suncast’s BMS5700 manual says site preparation and a foundation are required before assembly, and that the warranty requires one. You have two approved options:
- Concrete slab: a single slab at least 4 inches thick, with reinforcement bar recommended.
- Wood platform: pressure-treated 2×6 lumber on deck blocks or footings, topped with 3/4 inch plywood cut to 31.5 x 51.5 inches. The manual gives the cut list.
Either way, the ground has to be graded, compacted and level, and should slope away for drainage. Suncast says the shed will not assemble correctly on an uneven base. Check local codes and call your utility locator before you dig.
Anchoring
After assembly, the manual says the shed must be anchored to the foundation. On concrete, use four 3/8 inch masonry anchors with 1 inch washers. On wood, use four 1/4 x 3 inch lag screws with 1 inch washers. The anchoring hardware is not included. At 102 lb it is light for its height, so do not count on what is stored inside to hold it down.
Assembly
Suncast says assembly needs minimal tools and that a second person is required for some steps. Plan for a dry, calm day, and check all the parts against the parts pages before you start. The manual warns that some parts have sharp edges, so wear work gloves. Amazon’s summary of owner reviews says many found it easy, taking about 10 to 15 minutes, while several say some parts would not snap into place or the roof did not line up.
Placement and Care
- Keep it away from gutters and downspouts. Suncast says it is water resistant, not waterproof.
- Keep it away from hot objects and highly reflective surfaces. Suncast notes that Low-E windows reflect more heat and may shorten the shed’s life.
- Do not lean heavy items against the walls, which can distort the panels, and do not stand on or store things on the roof.
- Do not store flammable, caustic or corrosive materials in it.
- Clean it with mild soap and water now and then, and no harsh cleaners or stiff brushes. Suncast says staining from skipped cleaning is not covered by the warranty.
- Check now and then that the shed is still level and its parts are intact. Keep the roof clear of snow and leaves.

Warranty
Suncast gives its blow-molded sheds, model numbers starting BMS, a 10-year limited warranty. It covers repair or replacement of parts that fail from a manufacturing or materials defect, for the original buyer. Three conditions matter:
- You must register the shed with a copy of the receipt within 90 days of purchase (not required in California and Connecticut).
- It applies only to new sheds bought from Suncast or a Suncast authorized seller. The BMS5700 on Amazon is sold and shipped by Amazon.com. Suncast says sellers on Temu, Wish and similar platforms are not authorized.
- It is voided if you do not follow the manual, including the foundation requirement.
